Breda, with a population of 3,450 inhabitants is a town which blends historical tradition and crafts from the distant past. Located at the foot of the easternmost slope of the Montseny, the town is bordered by two rivers which form a valley. The town has a highly varied and extensive offer for tourists, the area’s natural environment, with its incomparable beauty invites the visitor to walks in the most picturesque parts of the valley.

HERITAGE:

The Monastery of Breda: A Romanesque church with its still-intact 12th century, apse, cloister and bell tower.

The Monastery of Sant Salvador: The year 878 is taken to be the year that Breda began its life as a town. Since then, the monastery of Sant Salvador has lent a unique identity to the town. Today only the church tower remains from this primitive Romanesque settlement, founded in 1038 by Guerau de Cabrera and Ermessenda, the counts of Girona. The tower dates from the 11th century, and stands majestically some 32 metres in height.

The north wing of the cloister which once belonged to the old monastery also remains, dating from a period between the 13th and 14th century.

Campins is a small municipality in the area of the Vallès Oriental, some 7.38 Km2 in total area, located on the foothills of the Montseny. To the east it faces Gualba, to the south Sant Celoni and to the north and west with Fogars de Montclús. The town has 296 inhabitants (census year 2000), shared between the small town centre and numerous scattered houses.

The municipal area is mountainous and wooded, above all in the northernmost sector. Practically the entire population is concentrated in the southernmost half where the land is much flatter. Despite its modest appearance, the town is unique in many ways. It is located in the basin of a lake which existed here some thirty million years ago. The loam left behind was used at the beginnings of the last century for the first cement factory in the country.

The area benefits from weather conditions; benign in winter and breezy in summer, which with its natural, mountainous attractive scenery explains the area’s traditional appeal for tourists.

HERITAGE:

The Church of Sant Joan Baptista: with Romanesque elements from the 12th century and later reconstructions from the 16th and 17th century.

The Church of Sant Guillem: first recorded in the 15th century.

The House of Pitarra: The old house of the playwright Frederic Soler, better known as “Pitarra” in the town of Campins.
