Its greatest era was between the 13th and 14th centuries.
Its location on the peak of a 649 metre high mountain of the
same name allowed the castle to dominate a wide sector of
the coastal hinterland, an area of transit of the highest
importance. The origin of the castle dates back to the end
of the 10th century. The castle had three areas; the lower
level, the armoury and the upper level. Josep Aragay (1889-1968),
in his poem "The Castle" contrasts, with romantic
longing the description of Bernat Desclot:"Fine curtains
and windows, bed and wardrobe which one day brought beauty
inside, carpets and silks which made the hostel comfortable
in dark winter, they are far gone, and will not return, inhospitable
a home without fire and without warmth ".
