Witches are probably the most popular figures
in storytelling, and it therefore comes as no surprise that
Montseny also has a rich popular tradition related to witches,
something which is reflected in the abundance of place names
which make reference to these mythical characters; The Plain
of the Witches (El Pla de les Bruixes) The House of Witches
(Can Bruix) or the Tower of the Witches (La Torre de les Bruixes).
This folkloric vision also has a dramatic historical background,
represented by episodes of persecution against women accused
of witchcraft, such as for example those which took place
in Vic between 1617 and 1627 which condemned fourteen women
from Viladrau, four from Seva and four from El Brull to the
gallows.
