In 1969, the government body of the Diputació de Barcelona, which had
included the protection of various natural areas within its
provincial urban plans, began research which was aimed at
providing a special plan for the park. The provincial government
bodies of Girona and Barcelona presented plans together in
1976, and these were approved the following year. With the
popular support of entities such as the Trekking Centre of
Catalonia, the Natural Park of Montseny was created, and since
then the two governing bodies co-manage the park, together
with the municipal councils in the area, with the collaboration
of the population.
