The Montseny mountain range is at the north of the coastal
basin and to the extreme west of the Catalan hill range on
the coastal hinterland; it is the highest area of this band
of mountains. Three basic areas can be distinguished; the
summit of El Turó de l'Home (1,706 m), and Les Agudes
(1,703 m), the plateau of La Calma (Puig Drau, 1,344 m) and
El Matagalls (1,697 m). All three encircle the Valley of the
Tordera in the shape of a horseshoe. The landscapes which
are identified with the three largest regions of Europe can
be found in the Montseny area: The Mediterranean, the Euro-Siberian,
and the Boreo-Alpine, with a wide range of different species
of flora and fauna which characterise these areas.
