The Town Council of Sant Esteve de

The municipality of Sant Esteve is located to the north of
the county of El Vallès Oriental, on the western face
of the Montseny, on a terrace of the river of La Tordera.
These characteristics mean that the town is situated in an
attractive natural area with a gentle, dry climate. The municipal
limits lay between Fogars de Montclús, to the north,
Mosqueroles, to the east, Santa Maria de Palautordera, to
the south, and Sant Pere de Vilamajor, to the west, covering
an area of 10.7 Km2 with 1,641 inhabitants (2002).
The town is reached by the BV-5301 road which crosses the
centre of the town in, going north to El Montseny and Collformic.
HERITAGE
The Iberian town of Montclús: dating from the 2nd
and 3rd centuries B.C. and abandoned during the 1st century
B.C. the remains of the town show that the area was inhabited
from prehistoric times.
Gypsy Ball
The Castle of Montclús: constructed
during the 9th century. Only a round corner tower and a ruined
chapel remain. Foundations and the remains of walls can be
seen on the fallen cliffs of the hillside, which indicate
that it was once a large mediaeval fort.
The Castle of Fluvià: first documented
in 1154, although the Romanesque church of Sant Cebrià
is still intact within the modern building of the castle.
The Church of Sant Esteve: one of the oldest
churches with remains dating from a church of the 12th century..
Traditional Farmhouses: with a Gothic mullioned
window; Can Bonamic (1553); also close to the river of La
Tordera are several old, disused mills.
