Santa Maria de Palautordera

Santa Maria de Palautordera is a municipal area located to the east of the region of El Vallès Oriental, at the foot of the Montseny massif. The municipal area covers some 17 square kilometres and lies at an average height of 1,9009 metres above sea level. In the year 2000 there were 6,435 registered inhabitants.
The area is linked to the rest of the county by the road which passes through the town, and which joins the road from Granollers to Girona (C-35). The distance of the town centre from the junction of the two roads is 4 kilometres.

The train station is located 3 kilometres from the town centre by the above mentioned road. The town centre is surrounded by various ring roads which facilitate communication between the different neighbourhoods and sections of the town. On the other hand the area of El Virgili, Temple and Ca l'Abril can be reached along a road which is popularly known as "La Drecera", following which you can also reach Sant Celoni. Santa Maria de Palautordera borders Fogars de Montclús, Sant Esteve de Palautordera, Sant Pere de Vilamajor, Llinars del Vallès, Vilalba Sasserra and Vallgorguina.

Palautordera is influenced by winds from the north of El Montseny, which rises 1,500metres above the Plain of Palau:

The coastal mountain range which, rises some 500metres above Palau, diminishes the Mediterranean breezes. The average temperature is 14.5º C, although there are temperature variations ranging from 23º C in the summer to 6.8ºC in winter. The highest temperatures occur in July, and the minimum temperatures in December and January.

In Santa Maria de Palautordera the town festival, the Festa Major, or Festa del Remei is held during the second week of October. The town festival of Sant Burget is also popular, and takes place during the last week of January. The weekly market is held on Saturday mornings in the town square of La Plaça de la Vila and in the street of El Carrer del Doctor Robert.

HERITAGE:
The Church of Santa Maria: A Gothic church which was built on the ruins of what was once the Castle of Palautordera, and which kept one of the old watchtowers for its bell tower.

Pont Trencat: A Gothic bridge over the river of La Tordera, built at the end of the 13th century, and destroyed during the French war. Only one arch remains. It has been reconstructed and the area around the bridge restored.

The Hermitage of La Mare de Déu del Remei: constructed in 1808 next to the old chapel from the early 16th century.

Traditional Farmhouses: The Villa Rural de Pinells and the Villa de Romans, date back to the year 908, and the farmhouses of Can Pou, with its 16th century Gothic window; Can Sala, restored in the 17th century and Can Barceló.
